Sipi Falls, Uganda |
In the lush green Ugandan highlands near the Kenyan border,  the Sipi River forms two cascades before making its final spectacular leap in front of the open mouth of a cavern. Visitors love the area as a place to relax and escape the heat of other parts of the country, revel in nature and, when the mood strikes, head out for a bit of adventure. Hikes to nearby Mount Elgon kick off at the falls, and there are also opportunities for abseiling and bird-watching. If you’re tired after all that, kick back at a well-appointed lodge with a cup of joe – this is prime coffee-producing land, known for some of the best Arabica beans in the world.

Gina Czupka

Gina’s first solo trip abroad, at age 16, changed her life. Since then, travel has been her passion and it’s her mission to convince others that they really can make travel a part of their lives. These days, she seeks out destinations where she can indulge her taste for adventure and shop for additions to her textile collection. Some of her favorite experiences from recent trips have included eating bun cha in Hanoi and feeding hyenas in Ethiopia.

Gina’s Favorite Travel Tip: When traveling abroad, learn enough of the language to be polite (hello, thank you, goodbye) and to shop and haggle (numbers and colors).
