Barcelona at a Glance

Barcelona has art, architecture and street life enough to occupy you for many years.

Let the colors, sounds textures and tastes of the city overwhelm you at Barcelona's central market the Mercat de la Boqueria. Fruits and nuts from Africa, oranges, bread, vegetables, meat, seafood, candy and garlic and displayed to attract the most costumers. The market is loud from the din of people picking out their purchases.

Out on the street, watch street performers, but don't stand too close if you don't want to leave a tip. Aggressive human statues have been known to break their careful pose and chase you down the street if you don't drop a coin in their hat.

For a quieter time, head to one of Barcelona's many art museums. Contemplate Spanish and European masters and soak in the city's creative stew. Barcelona's architecture is well known and some buildings should not be missed. As a goodbye to the city, visit Gaudi's Cathedral for the Sacred Family. At the very top of this ornate and impressive structure you can look out over the city and plan your trip for next time.
