Dominican Republic at a Glance

The Dominican Republic's resorts are the country's primary tourist destinations. However, this large island country has many things to see and do outside the resort areas.

The Dominican Republic has large mountains running down its center. Villages nestle in the foothills and cows graze beside the road. Agriculture dominates this region and the food and produce you eat while visiting was most likely grown nearby. Exploring this area will lead you through lush tropical forests, beautiful waterfalls and trickling mountain streams.

The seaside offers its own charms. Snorkel, scuba or simply swim in the warm Caribbean waters. Enjoy white crescent beaches as well as the rocky headlands that jut into the sea. Try your hand at surfing, or rent a kayak for some exploration in a mangrove lagoon. Wherever you are, the Dominican Republic shines through with its own distinctive personality.
