Melbourne at a Glance

Artsy and busy Melbourne has scads of Victorian architecture and a strong showing of new post-modern design. Mix all this in with the beach and a superb collection of museums and parks and you have a fabulous space to work and play.

Flanders Lane has the highest concentration of art galleries in Australia. Head here for evening gallery fetes or an afternoon's worth of art-hopping. You can mix a day of art up with a day of fine cooking. Melbourne's chefs thrive off of fusion just like its artists do. Asian, European and Australian flavors and techniques mix and meld to make hundreds of tasty options. Coffee snobs beware: Melbourne has a little known reputation of blowing your favorite brews out of the water.

For relaxation, join locals at the beach. Laid back and a little less chic than Sydney's waterfront, Melbourne nevertheless manages to charm.
