Delft at a Glance

Charming. pedestrian friendly Delft is a popular day-trip spot among tourists visiting Rotterdam, The Hague and beyond. Languid canals, a strong historic center and interesting museums draw visitors to Delft.

Delft was the home and burial place of the Dutch Master Vermeer. Look at his paintings on display in museums throughout the city, visit his grave in the New Church, and explore his life at the Vermeer Centrum Museum. After a look around the city, you'll understand how its beautiful canals and graceful buildings inspired some of the painters' most celebrated canvasses.

History and art buffs rejoice in Delft, but there's plenty of other things to do including shopping. Delft is famous for its hand painted blue and white china. Even in the days of automation, Delft's craftspeople still produce the dishes by hand and these important local pieces are sold in the city. For less of an investment, hit up mainstream shops, or try on clothing at a trendy boutique.
