Naples at a Glance

Sunny, busy Naples is teeming with life be it in its dark, maze-like historic quarter, its modern dance clubs and shopping malls or its hillsides of residential apartments. Head to Naples for its beautifully hot weather, ancient Greco-Roman history and historic churches and museums.

Naples's city life can be gritty and that's all part of its charm. From its origins as a Greco-Roman center, Naples has always had an influx of immigrants, visitors and  opportunists walking in and out of the city's gates. Breath in the sights and smells of Naples' cultural melting pot. African, Arabic and Italian influences are all visible.

Many people come to Naples for its beaches and its dance clubs. In the summer the dance party is often taken to the beach. However, you'd be remiss if you didn't check out the eons of history all on display in Naples. Zip off to Pompeii to see the archaeological diggings in the town that was destroyed and preserved by volcanic eruption. To stick closer to your hotel, visit the Naples Archaeology Museum.

      Need to Know

Severe Weather: Naples has pleasant weather and hot summers.  In the winter, clouds increase and temperatures drop to become chilly.

Safety Concerns: While tourists are unlikely to get involved in gang activities, they could run into the pickpockets and scooter thieves who are active in the tourist areas. Guard your valuables when touring the street. Consider keeping your passport in a safe or close to your skin. Common scams play off of people's insecurities with Euro notes and coins. Pay attention to avoid being short changed. If using a car, leave it parked in attended lots because car theft and break-ins are a problem.

Health Concerns: Naples has clean drinking water and a good record of public health.
