Twelve Apostles at a Glance

The Twelve Apostles are a set of twelve iconic sea stacks off the southern coast of Victoria. The region is rich with geology and natural wonders. Bring your walking shoes and your camera for a trip into one of Australia's most famous landscapes.

Visitors travel the southern shore on the Great Ocean Road. Cliffs, curves and ocean views are all part of the experience. Once you are in the Port Campbell area, there are dozens of trails, scenic overlooks and smooth beaches to discover. While this isn't really a safe area for swimming, you'll find plenty of sights for your camera that will make up for it.

If you want to travel inland, you'll find a rich green volcanic landscape. Hiking, crater lakes and fascinating volcanic cones await.

Severe Weather The Twelve Apostles has cooler, wetter weather than much of the rest of Australia. Winters are mild and rainy, but can change temperatures without warning.

Safety Concerns Take commonsense precautions when traveling around the Twelve Apostles. Keep your car locked and free from valuables. Pay attention to warning signs on beaches and only swim where it is safe to do so.

Health Concerns Ticks, snakes and mosquitoes spread diseases and infections. When spending time outdoors, protect yourself by wearing sturdy shoes and covering your skin. Check for ticks a few times a day if you are hiking. Get immediate medical attention if you receive a snake bite. Be aware of undertows and riptides which may make swimming dangerous in some areas.
